Tras su primera aventura, Max Payne dejó la DEA y volvió al departamento de policía de Nueva York como detective de homicidios.

Una noche, mientras patrulla, capta un aviso sobre un tiroteo en un almacén, un almacén que sabe que pertenece a Vladimir Lem, el traficante de armas que conoció hace poco. Como no podía ser de otra manera, Max va hacia allí…
